Hearts of Avon edition by Scott Toney Ivan Amberlake Religion Spirituality eBooks

Meet Ben, a talented young artist who lives and works with his dad on the Outer Banks, NC. His mom died when he was 9. Lying on the beach one day he hears a click of a camera and this is when he meets Caroline. As he chases after her to find out who this beauty is, he catches up with her as she is having an argument with John, her ex-fiance. John is controlling, abusive and determined not to let Caroline go! How far will he take his revenge?

This is a clean romance but the implication is there that they would have taken things further had they not been interrupted! Listed as a Christian novel, Ben is trying to be a "better person" but no real mention of Christianity or God until disaster strikes and then the characters are praying hard.

In some ways this story is a little strange because although Caroline asks Ben a lot of questions about himself, he doesn't reciprocate. He doesn't even know this girl before offering her his bed whilst he sleeps on the couch after an incident with John. Yes I know Mason, his dad is in the house but it all rang a little on the unreal side to me.

The book is well-written for the most part and fast paced. (Towards the end when Caroline is looking for her mom, Eva, Ben is talking about her mom being Suzie! Suzie is the aunt! Oops!) The characters thoughts are in italics which is a big plus. There is an overuse of the word "beautiful" and the book has a very abrupt ending which makes you wonder if there is going to be a sequel?

Definitely not the worst I have read but also not the best. Has potential but plenty of room for improvement.

Hearts of Avon edition by Scott Toney Ivan Amberlake Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed this book . Short but descriptive enough to feel the Outer Banks, the intensity of the storm, the heartbreak and the joy of the discovery of life again. I will read more of Scott Toney' s work.
I liked this book. The setting in the Outer Banks makes you fell like you know all about it when you have been to the location yourself. I recommend this book to any that reads.
As soon as Ben meets Caroline, he's interested, but she is coming from a break-up with her former fiancé, and the guy is stalking her. When Hurricane Irene moves into the Outer Banks, things get even more scary, and Ben's faith is tested. The storyline was interesting enough, and I appreciate the clean content.

I never did care as much for Caroline as I wanted. She seemed so remote and unpredictable for a long time. Ben was more likeable but seemed very awkward, maybe because his dialogue seemed too stilted. The author also needs to review his normative and objective pronouns. "Around he and his father's house" and "with he and Mason" are incorrect. The real problem with the novella was the ending, however. I was all poised to give the story at least a four, and then it ended. There was no conclusion; it just ended. Only one of the loose ends was tied up, but many more were left up in the air. I thought maybe the author had left things for a sequel, but I looked, and there doesn't seem to be one. This was disappointing. If he'd completed it, he would have had a much better novel.
It was an interesting romance. Clean, points for that. It was kinda Christian, in the sense that the characters would pray, and it was written out. God did talk back when a character was in a coma, but that was it. It wasn't preachy Christian, which I liked. The stalker ex boyfriend was a total crazy person. Good story line though.
I know hurricane survivors who didn't believe this was the one since they had survived so many already but they couldn't even imagine the impact and stayed too long. Some survived and others didn't.
I would give this more than five stars if I could, because I loved this book that much! It held my attention right from the start, all the way to the end. I live in North Carolina, although I'm in the mountains, and not the outter banks where this story takes place. I do have relatives there, and well remember the destruction from Hurricane Irene. That made this story so real to me! A big thank you to Scott for a great job, you have a wonderful God-given talent for story telling, and are using it well!
Wonderful story that tugs at the heartstrings and embodies the power of true love. Ben and Caroline are sympathetic, believable characters and John is a wonderfully written portrayal of obsession. Scott Toney is amazingly adept at pulling his readers along this emotional journey of romantic discovery. When it ended, I felt like it needed more, like it shouldn't be finished yet; or perhaps, I needed more, because it was so enjoyable! A best kept secret; perfect for readers that have exhausted their N. Sparks collections and crave a new voice in clean, romantic literature.
